Art

From the child who has recently mastered the monkey bars, has a passion for swings, loves to ride the carousel at the mall and always makes an effort to engage pretty girls; I have a few little snippets I'd like to jot down here.

Asked during our tour of the boys' new school:
"What's with all the shaped garbage?" Nothing malicious, the boy had simply never seen paper mache and there was quiet a display of it lining the hall next to the art room.

School has been an adjustment for Cohen. This week it seems he's not ready to get out of bed. The child BEGGED to go to school with Logan. Wanted so badly to "meet friends, ride the bus and do fun stuff all day."

Just today he was complaining about going to school as Tim walked him to the bus. Tim started telling him how he really enjoyed school at his age, how it was a lot of fun, etc.

Cohen's response: "I'm a different kid than you dad and I go to a different school."

Okay then.

This young man can strip down to undies in less than 30 seconds upon arrival when he's home for the day. I've clocked him.

He is beginning to miss Logan. I have no doubt this has been an adjustment for them both. Today they proudly announced plans for Logan to take Cohen as his "show and share" tomorrow... I wonder how that will play out.

Out of all our boys Cohen has been most vocal and emotional about our recent and many life changes. I am thankful he's such a great communicator. He blossom's so much by being known and loved by those around him, especially adults. Having Grandma here was just what he needed. He told me she was "kinda like his mom but not because she's Grandma."  When I told him she was coming he started sobbing, threw his arms around my neck and said "I'm not crying but I am - I don't know what's happening, I'm not sad - I'm so HAPPY!" That will go down as one of my most special memories. Little boy had never been so happy he cried.

You've not met a boy more earnest in his expressions of admiration. He is quiet ardent when it comes to me. It's truly adorable.

Cohen will GLOW when he sees me dressed up. I had a little date night with Tim while mom was here and he was so cute when he saw me ready to go.

"Mom, you are so good at doing your hair. I like it the down way."

"Will you wear your hair like that and those high shoes tomorrow on OUR date?"

All this while smiling his Cohen smile.

A little while back he said to me "Mom, I get what dad means about your hotness. Your like a fire."

Oh Cohen. Someday a special girl will swoon.

I purposely added the carousel picture before this next one. You'll see why.

Cohen had art class today. I pulled this masterpiece out of the folder and just...

There was definitely a moment where I started to say "Oh, how nice..." But I didn't get any further than "OH..."

Insert very brief awkward silence.

I couldn't help smiling and asked "What do we have here?"

He said he was trying to make a funny face with teeth and glasses.

Phew.

'Cause I was sure we had Chuckie's bride and some minions.

Harlem Shake Family Style

So this is way past due. Our close friends made a Harlem Shake video a few weeks back. We all got such a kick out of it and our boys immediately started planning a rebuttal.  If you haven't seen a sampling of the numerous YouTube versions of this crazy trend, you must check them out, makes it all the more funny.

Here is our version. You will notice my mom joined in the fun. She is too awesome for words. So is Tim, but you already new that...

...

Oh this has been a big week.

No title came to mind for this little blog so I used my favorite punctuation mark. The ellipses. I love them. Did you know that about me? I have favorite punctuation.  I may not always follow all the rules when using ellipses, but I do follow one. 3 dots. That is all. If you use more than three I will most certainly notice. I won't say anything... but I will notice.

And now, so will you.

Or not.

When this day has commenced my boys will have attended three full days at their new school and
my mom will be here.

MY MOM WILL BE HERE.

I am so happy, man I miss her.

This morning I got quiet the kick out of closing our conversation with "See you tonight!"

I am easily amused.

So far so good with school. We are still working on getting a little routine down. School starts at 7:50 a.m. here. Is that early? Bus picks up at 7:20 so we've had to up our morning game.

Coffee IV goes in at 5:30 a.m. now.

I'll share more about school later... I have some thoughts brewing and some things I for sure want to write down for the boys.

So This is Kinda Big

Our boys are starting school next week.

Oh man. I just wrote that. Makes it feel... official.

We have been homeschooling Logan since 1st grade and Cohen this year. Never planned to homeschool, it just kinda happened. But it worked for us. Quiet well, actually.

And then we moved.

Moving has rocked our world (obviously), but we didn't really plan on a school shake-up for this year, it just kinda happened. Like the whole homeschooling thing.

Anyway, lots of things led up to this decision and it's one we feel good about.

Homeschooling worked great with our move and we had originally planned to finish up this year that way whilst exploring options for next school year.

That changed. We have a theme going here: Change Change change.....

The boys are very excited at this point. Logan was quiet skeptical at first, but we visited the school last week and it went so well he's pretty stoked now. Cohen is over the moon. Not sure what he is most excited about... taking the bus, a packed lunch, or seeing Miss Austin again. (Miss Austin is the educational coordinator who did his assessment - a beautiful and very tall black women with "long pretty nails") I think Cohen fell in love a little. When I spoke with her on the phone the next day she expressed similar sentiments. I have no doubt the type of adoring gaze and one-dimple grin he threw down. That lady didn't stand a chance.

Other than that biggie we are just working at getting into a groove here. Visited Houston last weekend for a Taylor Made golf event Tim was playing in. Houston was actually prettier than I remembered. I forgot they had pine trees. I miss pine trees. The boys and I loitered around Barnes and Noble for a couple hours (gotta raise them right!) and then went to the very cool Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center. I drove that beast of a diesel truck around like I owned the place. Okay, not really - I was slightly terrified. I hate driving that truck and the traffic in Houston is insane. INSANE.
