Dear Logan

Hey Buddy, you turned 7 last month. We have had a fun year for sure and I find myself wondering if there is an age I don't love the most...

You are maturing at a rapid rate and I am so filled with love when I look at your sweet face and watch you make choices. I see the thinking in your eyes and I see how you strive to do the right thing for the right reasons and I wonder how I am so blessed with you who makes sense of my parenting even when it sometimes doesn't make any. I grow with you and you teach me so much about who I am and who I want to be just by being you. You are thoughtful and STRONG, loving and kind, helpful and cheerful, friendly and curious, cautious and carefree, funny and creative. You are amazing and I love being your mommy.

You love to draw. You've not met a pencil, marker, pen or crayon you can't put to good use. You draw every day. Many pictures, no less than 2 and often 5, 6 or more. Often these pictures are dinosaurs with incredible teeth or sea creatures and other animals. Every creation has an explanation and you love to tell me all about them.

Your a thinking boy and love to share your ideas and reasonings. You want to be understood and make yourself vulnerable to explain even when it's hard. I admire you for this.

You are a helpful and loving big brother, always willing to fetch a toy or drag a plasma car up from the basement. You encourage your brothers and praise their efforts. They look up to you and I'm glad for it.

You love Vitamin water and Orange juice.

You recently learned to ride your bike without training wheels. We tried talking you into learning last summer but you weren't having it. You decided when you were ready and you pretty much just took off. You look like you've been doing it forever.

You have a need for speed. You LOVE riding your bike now and just this makes you seem older to me. You are pushing your boundaries and wanting to go farther and farther away... around the block with friends, up the hill and back down as fast as your wheels will take you.

You want to form a "gang". It will be you and some friends from the neighborhood. You will "ride bikes for about 20 minutes, play hide and seek for about 10 minutes, have snack for about 5 minutes and then ride around some more." This makes my insides giggle

You love your vegetables and try to make healthy food choices. You are interested in the reasons for this and explain to me why you choose to eat salad. This makes me smile.

You've decided "comfy pants" are the way to go. In years past you've been pretty neutral about attire, but Cohen is wearing off on you and this year you have shunned your jeans in favor of sweatpants or skivvies.

You still snuggle in the morning. Lately your the first one up and you tiptoe quietly down and squish in beside me in the chair. We don't fit quiet like we used to and I wonder when our hips stopped fitting side by side. Your head still fits perfectly on my shoulder, I hope it always will.

You are getting tall. You have grown so much this year and I struggle to keep you in pants that don't look like capri's.

You eat so much. Truly an endless pit (as my parents used to say). I wonder what it will be like when your a teenager...

You sleep deeply. Talk in your sleep and say funny things deeply.

You have questions and great ideas and when there is a question and no answer you have an idea and formulate your own answer. You figure things out.

You call me "Momma". I love how it sounds when you say it... Daddy says he hopes you always call me that.  I do too.

You talk of picnic's, homemade cookies, watermelon, friends, and family day. You love to visit about happy things.  Do you know how this helps me stay focused on what really matters?

We celebrated your day with family and friends and a sea creature party. Daddy made the coolest cake and you LOVED it.

.

I love you sweet Logan and can't wait to enjoy year eight with you!

Love,
Momma

Not that I'm claiming to know Tim, but from what you've told me and what I've seen, Logan sounds like a carbon copy of his father. The stretchy pants paragraph was my favorite.

Happy beleated Birthday, Logan! Auntie loves you :-)

Oh, Bonnie! I don't know how I missed this post. It is beautiful, just. beautiful. Every single line you weave love. That specialness between you and Logan, it's exactly the reminder I need this morning. Sometimes I'm overwhelmed at how quickly the years are passing. You so subtly show me that, that is i the point, and everything special happens in the passing.

Been thinking about you. Love to you.

Bethany! How nice to jump on here to write a little blog and have a sweet message from you. I've been thinking about you too! Let's not let the summer pass without getting together to play.
